The Leaning Tower of Pisa started leaning before they even finished building it.
And instead of tearing it down…
they kept building.
Construction began in 1173. On a foundation only a few metres deep.
As the tower grew heavier, one side began sinking.
So builders tried to compensate.
They made the upper floors taller on the leaning side.
It didn’t straighten the tower.
It made it curve.
By 1990, engineers feared it could collapse.
They spent years pulling it back. Just enough to save it.
But never enough to straighten it.
After 800 years…
the mistake had become the monument.
