For context, the Bureau of Reclamation describes about 215 large interlocking blocks or columns, built through repeated concrete placements. Its account also confirms that ice water circulated through more than 582 miles of embedded pipe. This is more precise than the original script’s reference to thousands of blocks. The Hoover Dam had a problem no engineer had ever solved.
If they’d poured it all at once…
it would have taken 125 years to cool.
The concrete would have cracked before it ever held back a single drop of water.
So they built the dam in thousands of interlocking blocks.
Then they ran miles of pipe through the concrete…
pumping ice-cold water inside as it cured.
They literally cooled the dam from the inside out.
They weren’t following engineering textbooks.
They were writing them.
Nearly a century later…
the Hoover Dam is still standing.
